A trip to the island of Heavenly Aphrodite
There are places that seem to live between reality and dream. Kythera is one such place. An island of love and wandering, of the sea and secrets. If you are planning a three-day trip to this special part of the Ionian Sea, get ready for a magical journey.
Day 1: Chora and the secrets of History
The morning light bathes Chora, the capital of the island, one of the most beautiful villages of Kythira. The cobblestone alleys with the mansions seem to whisper stories of centuries. Start your walk from the Venetian Castle, where the sky meets the sea. From above, the blue of the sea stretches like an endless canvas, while the shadows of the ships move lazily on the horizon.
Descending from the castle, visit the Archaeological Museum of Kythera, where ancient finds testify to the island’s past. Then, get lost in the narrow streets of Chora, among houses with white walls and balconies overflowing with bougainvillea. Drink a Greek coffee in a traditional cafe and let time pass slowly.
Day 2: Waterfalls and secluded beaches
The day begins with exploration. The road leads you to Mylopotamos, a place straight out of a fairy tale. The Fonissa waterfall flows endlessly, filling the landscape with the sounds of water and mysticism. Walk along the paths and feel the touch of nature. At noon, enjoy your meal in the most beautiful square of Kythera under the shade of the centuries-old plane trees.
The next step finds you at Kaladi beach, one of the most beautiful in Kythera, with its double omega-shaped bays. Crystal clear waters, wild beauty, sculpted rocks. The descent may be a bit difficult, because there are quite a few steps, but once you arrive, you will feel like you have discovered a personal paradise.
In the evening, look for a tavern in one of the small villages, such as Avlemonas or Mitata. Try local delicacies, such as ladopassimada and eggplant salad, and accompany them with local wine.

Day 3: Hiking and a farewell full of promises
If you love hiking, Kythira offers unique routes on marked hiking trails. Walk to the Moudari Lighthouse, the northernmost point of the island with a view of the mountains of the southern Peloponnese. There, the wind sings along with the waves, while your gaze is lost in the blue horizon.
In the afternoon, Karavas, a small village full of springs and plane trees, calls you. There, try the famous Kythera rusks and feel the taste of the place.
As the afternoon arrives, sit in a café with a view and watch the sunset. The sky is painted in shades of orange and purple, like a final farewell to the island.
Departing with luggage full of memories
Just three 24 hours, and yet they seem like enough to make you fall in love with Kythira. But don’t worry. The island has a strange way of calling you back. And at some point, you will find yourself here again, following the call of the wind and the sea.
