M11 Kapsali – Livadi – Kapsali
Περιγραφή
- Path length: 8.2 km
- Duration: about 3 hours
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cultural Monuments
- Circular route: Yes
Starting point: Kapsali village.
This is the longest trail route in Kythira, but the result definitely pays off. Starting from the picturesque bay of Kapsali, one can reach Livadi in the center of the island via a wonderful route and continue on his way back to Kapsali.
The route starts climbing from Piso Gialo of Kapsali to the famous stone path of Kapaina, or “Atrapou tsi Kapaina” as the ancients called it, among a wonderful natural landscape with cedar stands. The path climbs the cliff above Kapsali leading to the small settlement Spilies. From there we descend to the ravine in the cave of Agia Sophia of Kalamos, where the oldest archaeological findings of Kythera, dating from 4000 BC, were found. The path climbs from a difficult point that needs special attention to the small rural settlement of Xeroniamata, continuing through heathers and juniper trees to Agios Ioannis in Agriolies, where there is a bypass of the path in a northerly direction to Livadi, otherwise we continue south to Monastery of Agios Nikolaos of the 16th century, and we go down from the stone bridge of Kapsali where the source of the Aqueduct is located below it, and then we pass through Agios Spyridon with the panoramic view, reaching the Aqueduct and ending up in Kapsali.
