M01 Hora – Kapsali

Starting point: At the entrance of the Castle of Hora.

At the southernmost tip of the island is Hora, the capital of Kythira, with traditional houses and mansions built under the Venetian castle, where the trail starts. On the route around the castle, the magnificent view with Cape Trachila, the triangular-shaped islet of Hytra, and in the background the Cretan sea is revealed, and if we are lucky we can clearly distinguish the majestic mountains of Crete. The path continues through dense pine vegetation offering a panoramic view of the picturesque Kapsali with its two omega-shaped bays, the pine forest on the left with the monastery of Agios Ioannis. Going downhill we pass the stone English bridge where the small but enchanting Sparagario beach is revealed to our right and after about 200 meters we end up at the beautiful beach of Kapsali, where the end of the route is located.
Returning, we leave Kapsali behind, and go up the main road towards Chora, meeting the Primary school, several of the small picturesque churches built around the foot of the castle, and ending up through the narrow picturesque streets we return to the starting point.
