The historical Monuments of Kythira!

Kythira located between two of the most important regions in Greece, the Peloponnese and Crete, gained great strategic importance from the Minoan era, as evidenced by the excavations at Agios Giorgis on the mountain with the Minoan summit sanctuary. But also from the beginning of the myth with the birth of Aphrodite in the waters of the island, there are many references to the temple of the goddess, which the archaeological dig of the future will provide more evidence.
The great Byzantine castle-state of Paleochora, in the ruins of which high walls, public works, and important Byzantine temples are preserved today. The period of Venetian rule left behind three castles, the largest of Chora, Mylopotamos, and Avlemonas. In the period of the British occupation, the schools of Milapidia and Mylopotamos were built, as well as many bridges. A multitude of monuments make up the morphology of the island with magnificent monasteries and Byzantine churches, mansions and simple residences, authentic works of folk art, local architecture.
